Professor C. A. Murthy Memorial Colloquium for Doctoral Candidates [Download PDF]

The Doctoral Colloquium will be held on December 14, 2023 (tentatively). It will be a forum for doctoral students to showcase their doctoral research contributions in different topics relevant to the Areas of Interest of PReMI'23.

The senior doctoral students are requested to submit their applications to participate in this Doctoral Colloquium. Only the PhD students who have already completed two years of their doctoral work (after enrolment), but have not yet submitted their thesis, are eligible to apply.

Submission Guidelines:

Submit a 2-page extended abstract in PDF (with filename Abstract_NAME.pdf) highlighting your doctoral research contributions so far. The extended abstract must be written following the standard 8.5’ × 11’ margin with font size no less than 11pt and it must contain the following fields in the given order.

  • Title, Name and Affiliation of the Candidate
  • Background and Motivation
  • Problem Statement/Research Gaps
  • Proposed Solutions/Plans (Preferably with a graphical overview)
  • Results/Significant Findings (If any)
  • Discussions and Future Works

Moreover, the following documents have to be submitted as part of the application:

  • A copy of the student identity card in PDF/JPG/PNG format (with name IDCard_ NAME.extension)
  • PhD enrolment certificate in PDF/JPG/PNG format (with file name Enrolment_Certificate_NAME.extension)
  • A nomination certificate from the doctoral supervisor in a proper letterhead and in PDF (with filename as Nomination_NAME.pdf). This letter must include:
    • The name, address, phone number and email address of the supervisor
    • The name, mailing address and email address of the candidate
    • Thesis title / areas of research / keywords
    • Expected date of thesis submission
    • A nomination statement (maximum 200 words) explaining the significance of the work in the context of the conference
  • A list of publications in PDF (with filename as Publications_NAME.pdf)

Note: The ‘NAME’ mentioned in the aforementioned filenames should be full name of the submitting student.

Oral Presentations for Doctoral Colloquium:

Each oral presentation will be of 30 minutes duration. The allotted time will comprise 25 minutes of presentation followed by 5 minutes of Q/A or discussion.

The presentation slides must be submitted PowerPoint or PDF formats to the organizers in due time which will be informed over email to the selected candidates.

In order to avoid any compatibility issues, please read the following instructions carefully.

  • It is recommended that the videos or animations in the slides must run in standalone mode without internet connectivity.
  • No support can be provided to run embedded videos in the slides.
  • Only fonts that are included in the basic installation of MS-Windows will be available (English version of Windows). Use of other fonts not included in Windows can cause wrong layout/style of your presentation.

Registration:

The shortlisted candidates do not need any registration to present their research work in the Doctoral Colloquium. However, if they want to attend ALL the sessions of the conference, they need to register as a Student and send the filled-in registration form by November 30, 2023. The registration form can be downloaded from the website of PReMI’23.

Note: If a student has accepted paper(s), already registered in her/his name or already completed registration for attending PReMI’23, then she/he does not need to register again. She/he may present her/his PhD work in the Doctoral Colloquium besides attending ALL other technical sessions of the conference.

Award:

Award will be given based on the feedback from an expert committee on the extended abstract, publications and presentation during the colloquium. In addition, every presenter will be recognized with a certificate of participation.
