The Physics and Applied Mathematics Unit (PAMU) of the Indian Statistical Institute invites applications for the position(s) of Visiting Scientist from bright candidates who have recently obtained a PhD in Physics or Applied Mathematics. Candidates who have submitted their PhD thesis and are awaiting the degree are also eligible to apply.
This is a rolling advertisement, and applications will be reviewed periodically within each financial year. The deadline for the next round of applications is October 5, 2025. For this round, applications are invited in the following subject areas: Fluid Mechanics, Quantum Gravity, Black Holes, Nonlinear Dynamics and Complex Systems, and Quantum Information.
The job will require conducting high-level research in the applicant’s area of interest and/or teaching one or more courses at ISI. Collaboration with one or more faculty members working in PAMU is required. For more details, please visit https://www.isical.ac.in/~pamu.
For the position of Visiting Scientist, a selected candidate will be initially appointed for a period of three months, not extending beyond March 31, 2026. The appointment may be terminated earlier or extended further, subject to satisfactory performance and the availability of funds.

Application must contain:
A research proposal (500 words), preferably prepared in collaboration with a faculty member of PAMU, a curriculum vitae which must include date of birth, academic qualifications, professional experience (if any), a list of publications, and a copy of the appropriate certificate for a candidate belonging to the SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/EWS category. A forwarding note from the concerned faculty member is necessary. Applicant’s age should not exceed 35 years as on October 05, 2025, with usual relaxation for reserved categories.
