Navigating yourself inside Salt Lake
First take a printout of this simple
map
or this more informative map which
shows the blocks, roads, islands and some important places.
Salt Lake has a confusing layout of look-alike roads. The maps
will help you to find your way in the maze, but only after you
take time to familiarise yourself with the map. Here are some
exercises to get your started.

Look at this map and notice the following points.
- Salt Lake is
basically shaped like a kite, tapering off towards the south.
-
Near the centre we have the Central Park which is hexagonal in
shape. Each of the 6 corners are important land marks. The most
important in Karunamayee, the least important being the municipal
school. The City Centre is near the Prasasan Bhavan corner.

Next remember that there are two roads emanating from each of the
top 4 corners, one road from each of the other 2 corners, and
also one going south from the Netaji statue.

- There are two more roads to remember and you'll get the hang
of the main roads of Salt Lake.
 |
| Two more roads |
The blue road (whose official name is 1st avenue, though few seem
to be aware of it) is one of the most traffic infested roads of
Salt Lake. The red road which intesect the blue road at the
Punjab National Bank (PNB) junction provides the main bus
connection from the northern to the southern part.
-
Keep the above grid of roads in mind when you want to locate
a point in Salt Lake.
