Statistical Data Science

Scope: The four-year Bachelor (Hons.) programme of Statistical Data Science focuses on statistical methodologies, with emphasis on statistical machine learning, computational statistics and data analytics. The focus will be on applications of statistics in industry and different branches of sciences, with a solid knowledge and understanding of statistics and probability. Outgoing students are expected to be placed in industry, finance and banking sectors and other Govt./Non-Govt. sectors. They will be also able to pursue higher studies.

Pass-Fail Rules for B.SDS Programme

Eligibility: In order to be eligible for admission, a student must have successfully completed 10+2 years of Higher Secondary Education (or its equivalent) 

(a) in 2025 or 2026, 

(b) with (i) Mathematics / Applied Mathematics and (ii) English as subjects of study, and 

(c) with at least 75% marks in aggregate (65% for SC, ST and PwBD candidates).

Method of Selection:The admission to the Bachelor of Statistical Data Science (BSDS) programme in 2026 will be based on the scores in either

(1)    JEE Main 2026

(2)    JEE Main 2025

(3)    CUET (UG) 2026 (Mathematics as well as English), or

(4)    CUET (UG) 2025 (Mathematics as well as English).


Tuition fee: Rs. 1,00,000/- per semester. There will be provision for full waiver of tuition fee for SC/ST/ PwBD candidates, and full or partial waiver based on family income.


Other academic fees: Rs. 2500/- per semester.


Location: The program will be offered concurrently in three centres of the institute: Kolkata, Delhi and Bengaluru. The courses will be taught in hybrid mode. The students will be physically present in each centre. The teacher will lecture in one of the centres with the other centres connected by video conferencing. The number of students to be admitted in each centre is 25. This is inclusive of all reserved seats and supernumerary seats, if any.

Exit options:

  • There is an exit option after three years with a Bachelor of Statistical Data Science degree. A student will be eligible for applying to the M.Stat. programme of the institute after completion of three years.
  • After the fourth year a student can receive a Bachelor of Statistical Data Science (Hons.) degree. This will make the graduate eligible for entry to programmes that require sixteen years of education.
  • There is an option to do fifth year to get an Integrated Master of Statistical Data Science degree.

Accommodation: No hostel accommodation will be provided to students in any location.
