Professor at Indian Statistical Institute since January 01,1982.Graduated from Calcutta University with Honours in Statistics in B.A.,with Statistics in M.A. and got Ph.D. in Statistics(in the area of Sample Survey) under Prof.H.K.Nandi's supervision.
 
 

The main area of research interest is 'Survey Sampling' and a subsidiary area is 'Realability and Life Testing'.
 
 

Published three research monographs :

'Unified Theory and Strategies of Survey Sampling' (with J.W.E.Vos), 1988
( North Holland).

'Randomized Response : Theory and Techniques' ( with Rahul Mukherjee), 1988 ( Marcel Dekker).

'Theory and Methods of Survey Sampling' ( with H.Stenger), 1992 ( Marcel Dekker).
 
 

Contributed one Chapter each to

'Current Topics in Survey Sampling', 1981, Academic Press.

'Handbook of Statistics' vol 6, 1988, North Holland.
 
 

Published about 90 research papers in standard Indian and Foreign journals. Many of them jointly with research students and colleagues on 'Survey Sampling' and 'Reliability and Life Testing'.
 
 

Successfully guided several Ph.D students.
 
 

Current research interest : Mean square error estimation in multi-stage sampling, Analytical study of complex surveys, Randomized response surveys and Small area estimation.
